Jerusalem, especially its old center, resembles a complex labyrinth with many mysterious streets and secret alleys. All houses are built or at least lined with limestone, which supports the historical style of the city.
Go for a walk in the heart of the old town as early as possible, at 7-8 am. Walk in silence in front of the Wailing Wall and convey your desire to heaven. We would not just advise a walk to the Wailing Wall – it’s obvious and written in any guidebook. But there is one secret place to share – a balcony of free kitchen for the needy Colel Chabad. It offers panoramic views of the Wall.
It is impossible to pass by tempting shops with Arabic sweets! Be sure to check out the Confectionery Jafar, where you can experience (and, of course, try) Palestinian cuisine. Here they prepare just an incredibly tasty knafe – a dessert from Scheme, made from Gaddafi vermicelli and goat cheese with sweet syrup.
Very close is the “Austrian Hospice” – a guest house with a cozy garden, built in the style of Viennese palaces. Go inside and head to the old elevator, climb to the very top and enjoy the incredible view from the roof to the streets of old Jerusalem.
